A benchmark on societal progression

No matter who you voted for you gotta appreciate today for the sheer historical weight of it. Kevin's school did a great job of teaching him about MLK this weekend and I was talking to him a little bit about history. I told him about the doctrine of "Separate but equal" the Montgomery bus boycott, and the Civil Rights act of 1964.

Obama's Inauguration represents a staggering benchmark on how far we have come....enjoy today, no matter what your politics are.

Watching footage of the 60's on MLK day and seeing blacks hosed and food dumped on them in cafes where they were unwanted was unnerving and distressing. Then to hear King's glorious speech, "I have a Dream" and realize who is being inagurated today is stirring. I am proud of America...for how far it has come in the last fifty years and the hope today holds for the future! We live in the best cunntry in the world.

Love you, Mom

To think that this happened in our lifetime. I wish my parents were alive to see this. My father was the first attorney at the railroad to hire a black attorney in the 70's. He mentored him and respected his adeptness at developing cases. It is truly a momentous day and one that I will always remember. Praise to Dr. King and for all that he and others did for African Americans in the United States and in the world. I am so proud to be an American today. It was an awesome celebration
