From The Earth to the Moon

On July 20, 1969, 39 years ago today 3 American Astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins (He had to stay in the lunar orbiter) arrived at the lunar surface. Armstrong set foot on the moon and said these words, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" We had six sucessful moon landings in total. The last one took place in 1971, two years before I was born. There is a current plan that NASA is working up to return us to the moon in about 15 years and mars in about 20 or 30. Anyways, in my opinion this journey of discovery is the single most profound advancement that has happened since the big bang over 13 billion years ago. In my opinion instead of spending one billion dollars per day in Iraq, our money would be better suited to journey to the outer reaches of our solar system, in order to learn more about ourselves.

I love watching Apollo 13, and the documentaries on space travel and exploration. It is incredible to me that we can make machines to help us travel thousands of miles away, in space in an utter vacuum of air, and survive and come back. I agree, I would love for our country to lead the way in further exploration of space and the outer frontiers.

I agree. I think there is so much to explore. I would love to see us more aggressively pursue space exploration. I would love to see a permanent scientific research lab put on the moon, which could also serve as a staging location for further exploration - think about launches from the moon - requiring a fifteenth the amount of fuel - or increasing their range by using the same amount. I would love to see us put men on Mars within the next two decades. It is sad really - we are using a fleet of space shuttles that are thirty years old built with technology that predates that by decades. In an age where technology is progressing at exponential rates - it is time for our space program to get back into high gear and see where it takes us. Thanks for the post Gar.

Ex-Astronaut: Aliens Are Real and NASA Knows It
Thursday, July 24, 2008

Former NASA astronaut and moon-walker Dr. Edgar Mitchell — a veteran of the Apollo 14 mission — claims aliens exist.

He says extraterrestrials have visited Earth on several occasions — but the alien contact has been repeatedly covered up by governments for six decades.

Mitchell, 77, said during a radio interview in Birmingham, England, that sources at NASA who had had contact with aliens described the beings as "little people who look strange to us."

He said supposedly real-life ET's were similar to the traditional image of a "small gray" — short, slight frame, large eyes and large head.

Mitchell also claimed human technology is "not nearly as sophisticated" as the aliens' and "had they been hostile," he warned "we would be been gone by now."
